New Year, New Nose

What are some of your big plans for the New Year? Some of us are planning some big trips, while others are more focused on home. Maybe this is the year you move to a new city, or try a new job. Or, maybe this is the year you finally give yourself that nose job you’ve been dreaming of.
Understanding a surgery is important; rhinoplasty in particular is a surgery that many people see on television and think they can go back to work the next day. Keep reading for some of the most frequently asked questions about rhinoplasty.
What can be resolved with rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a treatment for a deviated septum or other breathing problems that are concerned with the nose. While that’s true, rhinoplasty can also be done for purely cosmetic reasons. If you don’t like your nose, we can help. You don’t need to have breathing problems to want a rhinoplasty.
How long does it take to recover?
A rhinoplasty can be performed in a short surgery, and we follow up with you to make sure you’re healing well. Around a week after your surgery, we will likely ask you to come in for a check up.
During this visit, we will remove your cast and the packing from your nose. Many of our patients express that they feel much better when they’re able to breath out of their nose again.
Often, people do like to take a little time off of work after a rhinoplasty, and it may take up to two weeks for any bruising and swelling to subside. Granted, your recovery time may vary, depending on what concerns you had and how well your body heals.
Is it covered by insurance?
Generally, rhinoplasty is seen two ways by insurance companies. If you can prove medical necessity for the surgery (such as a deviated septum or other breathing issues), then insurance may cover some or all of the cost. If your rhinoplasty is for purely cosmetic reasons, then insurance will not likely cover the cost of your surgery. Talking to your insurance provider beforehand will help you understand what you’re responsible for.
