Liposuction Recovery: What Should I Expect Afterward My Procedure?

Liposuction Boston MAAs you probably know, our metabolisms slow down as we get a little older, and weight that would melt away when we were younger doesn’t want to budge anymore! Liposuction, the surgical removal of body fat, can be a great way to help remove that stubborn fat that just won’t budge after years of exercising and eating well. If you’re interested in learning more about liposuction and what life looks like after this procedure, keep reading.

Liposuction procedures are tailored to each patient and what kind of results they are looking for. Some people are looking more a more dramatic change, while others are really just sick of those stubborn love handles that won’t go away no matter how many sit-ups they do. Depending on your specific needs, the procedure will be performed under general or local anesthesia. It’s normally an outpatient procedure, but keep in mind that your body will still need downtime to recover from liposuction.

Recovery Timeline

Ultimately, your body will tell you how it’s recovering from liposuction, so it’s important to listen and not to push yourself too hard. The first few days after surgery are usually the most difficult (as with most surgeries). You will likely have localized swelling and soreness during this time. After around a week, most patients are able to return to work. You will likely need to wear compression garments underneath your clothing to help keep swelling down. Generally, around two to three weeks after surgery is a good time to start heading back to the gym. Take it easy and consult your physician beforehand to make sure you are ready for exercise.

You will likely start feeling better within a matter of weeks, though your body is still slowly adjusting to its new shape. Keep that in mind and listen to your body. Be patient.
