Surgery After Weight Loss

Weight Loss Success Do you have questions after your weight loss?  My goal in this blog is to provide objective information on surgery after weight loss and body contouring for individuals who have lost a significant amount of weight. More than one-third of adults are obese. It is a condition that affects people at all income and education levels. Over the last couple of years, through various media outlets, awareness of its potential unhealthy effects has increased. People are now responding to the expanded messages concerning the dangers of physical inactivity and obesity. As people gain weight the skin has to stretch to accommodate the extra volume. This is possible due to the presence of elastic connective tissues, fibers, blood vessels and different skin components that can stretch or contract depending on how they’re treated. When individuals lose weight, and especially when individuals lose weight at rapidly (either through diet and exercise or following bariatric surgery) these components of skin not only lose the layers of fat that keep them stretched out but are unable to adapt quickly enough to accommodate the new body shape. As such, skin can appear to be in excess, loose, and sagging.  Body contouring procedures offer a solution to this problem by eliminating excess skin and tightening it to match the body’s current shape.  I have contributed scientific manuscripts and helped publish a book on the subject of body contouring and surgery after weight loss. Furthermore I presented on weight reduction surgery at the National Roundtable Meeting in Washington, D.C. which allows me to stay up to date on all the latest developments in this particular field.  I will be providing tips and resources in this section.
