Pregnancy and breast cancer reconstruction

I saw a patient recently who was relatively early in her pregnancy last week; of course the safety of the growing baby is paramount and also treatment of the cancer; there are options to minimize the number of anesthesias when treating breast cancer and planning reconstruction.
Breast reconstruction is a type of surgery for women who have had all or part of a breast removed. The surgery rebuilds the breast mound to match the size and shape of the other breast. The nipple and the darker area around the nipple (areola) can also be added.
