I would like to start off by thanking Dr. Lin for this amazing opportunity. Although it was virtual rotation I feel as though I have taken an educational journey in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery. This virtual rotation has taught me a great amount regarding both the basics, such as Wound healing to Flaps and Grafts, Burns, Aesthetic surgery, Congenital Head and Neck, Hand and Extremity as well as other topics and extremely detailed issues. After watching all kinds of new surgeries and learning that there is no limit on the body that a specialized and skilled plastic surgeon can’t fix, I feel inspired to learn more about this amazing specialty. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Lin in 2016 when I was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Carcinoma . No one ever wants to hear the words "You have Cancer". It was a very difficult time in my life, so many decisions to be made lumpectomy, mastectomy, reconstruction.... When I first met with Dr. Lin, I was so nervous because I was unsure of what I was going to do after my bilateral mastectomy. I didn't know what my options were. Dr. Lin took the time to thoroughly explain all the procedures that were available and answered all the questions that I had. Dr. Lin never rushed me or persuaded me to go with one procedure over the other. I decided to go with the bilateral DIEP Flap breast reconstruction. The reconstruction was performed immediately after the bilateral mastectomy. The morning of my surgery, I put 100% of my trust in Dr Lin. I felt so confident that he would do an amazing job putting my body together and he did. It has been 4 years since my diagnosis and it makes me feel blessed that I was fortunate enough to have Dr. Lin on my team. Dr. Lin is amazing, he is very knowledgable, kind, caring and compassionate. When he asks how you are feeling, he wants to know good or bad. He will be there for you not matter what. I had an amazing one month of virtual rotation with Dr Lin. Dr Lin was an excellent teacher, always keen to teach and explain difficult concepts. I learned so much about plastic surgery during the month, which flew by in the blink of an eye. He solidified my interest in plastic surgery and was extremely dedicated to ensuring our questions were answered. His passion for the field of plastic surgery was very infectious and made learning very exciting and enjoyable. Looking forward to in-person rotations when possible!

Going in, I had a certain level of expectation from this rotation and was very happy when each and every one of them was met. Dr Lin’s virtual rotation is an experience that is one of a kind. It is filled with so much knowledge of the field of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery and at the same time addressed a lot of pre-conceived notions I had of the field. I especially loved watching all the different types of procedures and techniques and having any questions I had be answered on the spot by Dr Lin- who was very unassuming and reflected his passion for his field onto us. I looked forward to logging into class every day and learning something fascinating. This month of learning has been one of the best educational encounters I’ve had and has further cemented my interest in the field.

I had the great opportunity to work with Dr.Lin in a virtual plastic surgery rotation during the month of November 2020. during my month with Dr.Lin I learned a lot about the basics of plastic surgeries as well as the new advances in plastic surgery.
